Designing the Faces of Faith — The Creative Journey Behind The Word Bricks Minifigures

Designing the Faces of the Bible — The Journey Behind Our Minifigures

When we first began creating The Word Bricks minifigures, we knew that the faces would be one of the most meaningful parts of every design. These tiny details had to carry warmth, kindness, and personality — traits that reflect the stories and people of Scripture. What started as a simple design idea quickly turned into an exciting journey of creativity, patience, and learning.

Learning the Tools: Our First Steps

Our journey began with PartDesigner, the software we use to create and customize the faces and details of each minifigure. I’m not a professional 3D designer — but with faith, curiosity, and a lot of trial and error, I started learning how to turn simple shapes and lines into expressions that feel alive.

Those first few hours were full of experimentation — discovering how every curve and dot could change an entire expression. Each face was not just about aesthetics; it was about capturing character, emotion, and story.

The First Attempts: Not Quite There Yet

Our first version of Jesus’ face was a humble beginning. We started with the classic LEGO-style design, thinking that keeping it simple would make it instantly recognizable. However, when we looked at it in 3D and rendered it, something felt… off and that would be an understatement. The eyes were slightly misaligned, the smile wasn’t quite right, and somehow, it didn’t capture the calm and compassionate presence we wanted Jesus to embody.

It was a great reminder that even small imperfections can change the message a face conveys — especially when the goal is to reflect love and gentleness.

Refining the Design: Bringing Warmth to Life

Over time, and after countless small adjustments, the Jesus face we know today began to take shape. We softened the features, adjusted the proportions, and ensured the eyes aligned perfectly to give a gentle, peaceful expression. It was no longer just a minifigure — it felt like it carried something deeper.

Every new character we design now builds on that same philosophy: each face should express a bit of the story they represent — whether it’s the courage of Peter, the humility of Mary, or the compassion of Jesus. And we are still learning and improving every single day.

Looking Ahead

This design journey taught us that even the smallest creative details matter when you’re trying to share something meaningful. What started as a technical challenge became a process of reflection — on how faith, art, and patience work hand in hand.

We’re still learning, improving, and God willing, crafting new faces that will tell the timeless stories and truths of the Bible.
